The Top Five Gambling Books
Gambling is one of the most popular hobbies around, but it can also be incredibly confusing, particularly when it comes to the rules of games and the supposed strategies. Luckily, there’s a huge selection of gambling-based books which explain supposed strategies, tell true stories of people who have lost and won, and discuss the ins and outs of gambling in the USA.
But where do you start with these books? Take a look below to find some of the most popular picks of all time.
1. The Perfect Bet: Taking The Luck Out Of Gambling By Adam Kucharski
At first glance, you’d believe that Adam Kucharski’s The Perfect Bet is a book that explains how to beat the House when gambling and how both mathematics and science apply to the activity. However, the book actually discusses people who have managed to beat the house while also touching on the origins of the Monte Carlo method and Markov chain.
While this may disappoint many hopeful gamblers looking to break the system, we genuinely enjoy the read for opening our eyes to the history of gambling. It was incredibly interesting, particularly sections about bots and how they’re working within the gambling industry. If you’re looking to read about game strategies, we can confirm that this is not the book for you.
2. American Casino Guide 2019 Edition By Steve Bourie
The American Casino Guide is a book that’s released annually to provide gamers detailed information about gambling in the United States. The book includes guides on over 750 casinos and resorts in the US including general room rates, restaurants, casino games and special features. It also includes maps of casinos as well as detailed strategies for playing games.
We believe the American Casino Guide is incredibly useful for the coupons it gives you as well as for the detailed guides it provides on casinos all over the country, particularly if you’ve decided to visit Atlantic City or Las Vegas for the first time. However, the casino game strategies are rather poor and will not help you win any games. If you’re buying the book solely for this, we suggest you spend your money elsewhere.
Gambling 102: The Best Strategies For All Casino Games By Michael Shakleford
Michael Shakleford’s Gambling 102 explains how to win at casino games with proven strategies for baccarat, video poker, sic bo, craps and slots. Comprised of 19 chapters, the book provides readers with an assessment of the odds they face and the strategies you can use to lower the odds.
While many users find casino game strategies very useful, we don’t. Shakleford’s book may help you understand the rules and mathematics behind games, but his strategies are not guaranteed to make you a winner.
Tony 10: The Astonishing Story Of The Postman Who Gambled $10,000,000… And Lost It All By Tony O’Reilly and Declan Lynch
Tony 10 is a book that tells the true story of Tony O’Reilly who made headlines after stealing €1.75 from An Post, an Irish postal shop, where he worked as a brand manager. The money was used to gamble, starting from a bet of €1 up to €10 million and it cost him his family, job and landed him a prison sentence.
Unlike most of the other books on this list, it doesn’t explain any gambling strategies. Instead, it shows the darker side of gambling and addictions while also telling a story of redemption and hope. It really opened our eyes to the dangers of a gambling addiction while also showing that there is help available to anyone feeling vulnerable. It was a great read, we could not put the book down and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys gambling.
Sports Trading On Betfair: Profitable Systems For Trading On Betfair And Betdaq By Wayne Bailey
Wayne Bailey’s Sports Trading On Betfair is a book which discusses how odds work and why they change along with the strategies he uses to profit from betting exchanges such as Betfair and Betdaq. The book also touches on the psychology behind betting while providing useful tips for both first-timers and regular traders.
However, we felt that the tips and strategies detailed in the book are somewhat outdated, particularly when it comes to the technology and software described in the book regarding betting exchanges. In addition, we felt that all of Bailey’s tips and hints are all available elsewhere and will most likely not help you when trading and betting – which is the entire process of the book. If you’d like to know how trading and betting works, this is the book for you but if you’re looking for something that will teach you how to make a profit, it may not be worth it.
Gambling books can be extremely helpful by informing you of how a game works, and sometimes even opening your eyes to facts you didn’t know like gambling addictions. They can teach you the rules of games and provide you with tips helpful knowledge that can aid you but most strategies found in these books are relatively useless.
Most strategies do not work and you’re actually better off practising the casino games and learning and developing the skills behind them. Doing this can help improve your chances of winning and if you find you need additional aid, you can check out our casino games guides right here on Tips For Winning.
